LDS Tools-General-correct terminology-training

Post by 1968leocomeeatabite »

I am looking for some direction and help. I am orienting a new bishopric which wants to use the many new ways to use the digital what ever. They in turn want to help/train our leaders. My calling is Ward Executive Secretary. I am not a techy. Would you evaluate the following statement and give any further explanation or training you feel applicable.

"LDS Tools" are mobile applications. Other mobile applications are: Gospel Library, Family Search Memories, Family Search Tree, Mormon Channel, Bible Videos, Book of Mormon, LDS Music, LDS Youth, Scripture Mastery, & Ensign.

Some of these applications will require a log in. A log in is required and beneficial to the extent that you are able to view or even in some cases perform work or gather information that is connected to you, your calling, or edit personal information.

"LDS Tools" are different from "LDS.org online tools".

Some "LDS.org online tools" are: Notes, Maps, Directory, Calendar, Newsletter, and Lesson Schedules.

"LDS Tools" will give you access to your ward Directory and Calendar when you have a log-in or pin. It will also grant you to info. & rights according to your calling. The functionality is good but limited in comparison to "LDS.org online tools". Specifically Calendar and Directory.

"LDS.org online tools" will give you the most functionality, and features. These items are somewhat replicated as applications on "LDS Tools"

You can get help with how to use the functionality of "LDS Tools" at ___________?

Thank you for your input.

Actually LDS Tools is one mobile application. There are versions for different operating systems. For example there is an LDS Tools application for Android devices, one for iOS (Apple) devices, one for Windows Phone devices, and one for Blackberry devices. LDS Tools includes some of the functionality of LDS.org tools such as Calendar, Directory, Maps, and for certain leaders, some of the tools on Leader and Clerk Resources.

Don't confuse the application name LDS Tools with the LDS.org tools applications (tools available through the Tools menu on LDS.org) or as a name given to the list of applications the Church has developed or sponsored.

The list you provided are Church sponsored applications that are listed on the LDS.org Mobile Applications page. Not all the applications listed there are available on all platforms. You can see for which platforms each application has been developed on that LDS.org Mobile Applications page.

A member installing Gospel Library would not need to also install the Book of Mormon application and the Ensign application as those are included in the Gospel Library.

There are other private or commercial applications that are not sponsored by the Church. For example members with iOS (Apple) devices can install the LDS Music application to see the words and sheet music for the hymns of the Church and from the Children's Songbook. While the music in the Gospel Library includes the words for the hymns and Children's Songbook it does not include sheet music. Therefore, members with Android devices must look elsewhere for an application with sheet music. They can install an application, such as LDS Hymns, not sponsored by the Church, from the Android Store to get the sheet music not available in the Gospel Library.

The correct syntax would be "LDS Tools is different from the online LDS.org tools." This is because LDS Tools is an application and not a group of applications. But in addition to that statement it should be noted that LDS Tools incorporates some of the functionality of some of the online LDS.org tools as explained previously.

The list of tools available can be seen by logging onto LDS.org and clicking the Tools menu item. In addition to the tools listed are links to the Recreation Camps site, the Mobile Applications page of LDS.org, the LDS.org Patriarchal Blessings page, your LDS Accounts settings page, as well as links to other sites and pages unique to your calling.

The LDS Tools mobile application provides some of the functionality of the online LDS.org tools. For example the Calendar in LDS Tools is somewhat similar to the Agenda view in the Calendar online LDS.org tool.

Help for the LDS Tools application is in the Help menu item in the installed mobile application.

I would start with one or two things at a time instead of trying to talk about everything at once. I think the two most important things you could cover in this sort of training would be gospel study, finding training for your calling, and ward communication. For example, here are some basic outlines you might consider:

Using LDS technology resources to study the gospel. Audience: all ward members.
– LDS.org scriptures
– LDS.org manuals
– LDS.org General Conference
– LDS Account login
– LDS.org Notes and Journals
– "Gospel Library" mobile app.

Using LDS technology resources to help in your calling. Audience: bishopric and ward council, including counselors, secretaries, and assistants.
– LDS Account login
– How to access the handbook on LDS.org
– How to access training for your calling on LDS.org
– LDS.org Directory
– LDS.org Calendar
– LDS.org Newsletter
– LDS.org Lesson Schedules
– Leader and Clerk Resources (leader.lds.org)
– "LDS Tools" mobile app

Using LDS technology resources to keep in touch with the ward. Audience: all ward members.
– LDS Account login
– LDS.org Directory
– LDS.org Calendar
– LDS.org Newsletter
– LDS.org Lesson Schedules
– "LDS Tools" mobile app

Note that the LDS.org Calendar, Newsletter, and Lesson Schedules tools aren't useful to members unless they are kept up-to-date by ward leaders.
