Hyperlink Problem

#1

Post by zaneclark »

I would guess that as usual I am missing a step in the process, but when I attempt to add a hyperlink to an article, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. For example, this link worked:
https://tech.lds.org/wiki/Church_Websites.

But trying to link to http://www.lds.org and other similar links did not..... What am I doing wrong?

(I have tried it with and without http and https....still doesn't work.)

I just tried those links, and they both worked fine. Are you just typing that link into the body of the article, or are you using the link button to add a link? I used the link button as follows:
  1. Type text like "Click here for LDS.org"
  2. Select "here"
  3. Click the Link button on the toolbar
  4. For the URL, enter "http://www.lds.org" and click OK
  5. Save the article
The result is something that looks like:

That's what I expected. The link for "here" is clickable and takes me to the expected place (LDS.org).

If I don't use the Link button, and just type in the text of the URL, in my experience that text is never turned into a clickable link.

That was it! I was on a plane all day yesterday and I think my brain is scrambled, but now that I can successfully add a link, the link only gives me the dreaded... "Page Not Found." Oh wise one, what am I not doing correctly?

I don't know. But if I were troubleshooting this, I would:
  1. Exactly copy the URL I put in the link
  2. Paste it in my browser's address line
  3. Make sure that I can successfully visit that exact URL
That will tell you if there's something bad with the link (you mistyped it, or the site is down), or if there is really a problem with the way Newsletter handles that link.
