Help with our FHC computers

#1

Post by layborn123 »

Can anyone help us? Our Center's been doing good so far but recently we can't access familysearch.org and it says "You still don't have PortalCfg_Force.exe"... How can we make it back to normal? Please Help Anyone...Thanks
And we don't even have Cisco Firewall too, though we've checked the Portal Status and the Web is already filtered and recommends that we are to setup new.PortalSvc.exe...

The Library Desktop has been retired.

The desktop has not been used at the FHL for quite some time and was replaced by better technologies at the Family History Library. We discovered that others have continued to use the desktop despite it only being set up for the FHL. Because of this the website has now been deactivated.

There is no need for you to contact support, they won't be able to fix it. Please delete any links or bookmarks you have taking you to this site.

I split your message off because it's a new subject.

I'd start off by contacting the Stake Technology Specialist. It's his calling to handle the computers in the stake, including any FHCs in the stake.

And the first problem I'd tackle is if you have a Firewall. You say the Internet is filtered but you have no Firewall. The device might be located outside of your center were you can't see it. But if there is no Cisco Firewall, that could affect your ability to get to some of the FH partners websites.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Are you using a bookmark to access FamilySearch.org? If so, my bet is that the bookmark is not set up to take you to https://familysearch.org/ but instead set up to take you to a specific page on FamilySearch.org that no longer exists. You can delete that bookmark and create a new bookmark that links to https://familysearch.org/

Does https://familysearch.org/ work for you?

I remembered that our Center's computer been reformatted by a Family History Representative and he wasn't able to run off/install all necessary programs especially the last step where the Sophos Antivirus is installed. But for now we can access back familysearch.org even though we haven't done anything to fix it and we found it out yesterday. Thanks for the reply and can we ask your help how can we install Cisco Firewall and Sophos, please?

You will need to contact your Stake Technology Specialist, who will be able to check the firewall status and install any missing software. This assumes that this an official FHC, which is his responsibility to maintain!
