Sub-categories in the "Other" accounts

Is it possible to delete old or no longer used sub-categories in our "Other" account?

To some extent, yes, you can. In some views it will remain because of history.

But you have to zero it out first.

You can't delete subcategories that have any activity or balance. But you can and should deactivate any subcategories that are no longer being used. Before you deactivate a subcategory, the balance needs to be zero. Deal with surpluses or deficits as described in the article The "Other" Category. Then deactivate the category in MLS by going to Finance > View/Update Categories, selecting the category, and unchecking the "Active" checkbox.

Deactivating a subcategory will cause it to be invisible in most places in MLS (it will no longer be an option for writing checks from or depositing money to).
