The FHC director asked me (the STS) to install PAF 5.2 onto the computers in her FHC. I had been able to do this previously using the Application Finder utility. However, I believe Lynn Shaw released a new FHC Application Finder, and this new version does not list PAF as an application available for download.
Luckily, we still have the PAF 5.2 installation package elsewhere. I was just disappointed that the FHC Application Finder no longer provides PAF.

It's not too surprising, considering that PAF was discontinued over a year ago.drepouille wrote:The FHC director asked me (the STS) to install PAF 5.2 onto the computers in her FHC. I know some people have a hard time with change, but really, why would anyone want to use PAF anymore? You can use Ancestral Quest or other apps (which have free versions) that will read PAF files directly. They can sync with Family Tree and do many other things that PAF can't do and never will be able to do.
We don't have PAF on any of our computers in our FHC anymore, and no one seems to mind, given the much better options that are available.

Re: FHC Application Finder
How well does it work with PAF 2/3/4 files? There might be a need for something that can read whatever comes though the door. Likewise with PAF backup files of various versions.aebrown wrote:I know some people have a hard time with change, but really, why would anyone want to use PAF anymore? I know that was a concern at one time. Maybe not so much now. I agree with you as far as PAF for general use.

A quick search shows that Ancestral Quest will work with PAF 2/3/4 files.russellhltn wrote:How well does it work with PAF 2/3/4 files? There might be a need for something that can read whatever comes though the door.
It's been a long time since I've heard of anyone in our FHC asking for any version of PAF that old, so I think your question is mostly theoretical. But if it were to happen, we have the tools installed that will handle it -- without using the unsupported PAF application.
