Assistant Technology Specialists

#1

Post by sbradshaw »

For anyone who hasn't heard, there's a new notice that was sent out to stakes on July 3, emphasizing the need to teach members how to use Church-sponsored technologies and suggesting that worthy youth and adults be called as assistant technology specialists if there is a need.

Depending on your calling, you can see the notice at https://letters.lds.org/

I'm excited for this emphasis on technology training!

I wonder what "electronic keys" to the calling do the assistants get?

The letter seems to indicate they will have access to training materials at mhtech.lds.org... but to access anything special they would need to be assigned to a standard calling in MLS, so I wonder if there's a standard calling coming for "Assistant Technology Specialist."

UPDATE: "Assistant Technology Specialist" does appear under "Technology" in the stake callings:

Have any been added at the ward level? With the letter saying that can be organized by ward, if there's any rights, it would make sense if it was ward rights and not just stake calling/stake rights.

All I see on the ward level under Technology is Ward Website Administrator, which has existed previously. Here are all the technology callings I see:

STAKE
Stake Presidency > Stake Assistant Clerk--Technology Specialist
Technology > Assistant Technology Specialist (new)
Technology > Stake Website Administrator

WARD
Technology > Ward Website Administrator

It seems that, even though the stake president may decide that each ward (for example) have a certain number of Assistant Technology Specialists, it is uniquely a stake calling – the stake being responsible for training, and the assistants reporting to the stake.

The stake president could decide to call an assistant for each building, or just a certain number of assistants to help the technology specialist for the whole stake. You could have an assistant assigned to train members on Gospel Library in the home, another assigned to help Sunday School presidencies with teaching resources, and another helping ward councils learn how to use LDS Tools and Leader and Clerk Resources.
