One of the wards in our stake is trying to set up a brother that is a prospective elder as Assistant Secretary. According to the Handbook, we can call a prospective elder to be an Assistant Secretary.) However, when they try to enter him in MLS, it will not let them. They are able to pull up the “Assistant Secretary” position, but when we search for this brother’s name, it only lists current elders (not Priests). Can you just manually enter the brother's name? Will it give him the rights to the system that he needs? Thanks for the help.

Re: Assistant Ward Clerk - Prospective Elder
I'm not in front of MLS, but I'd check for a drop-down that allows you to select non-Elders for the display list.but when we search for this brother’s name, it only lists current elders (not Priests).
There are no rights that come with this position. Will it give him the rights to the system that he needs?

Re: Assistant Ward Clerk - Prospective Elder
I just tested and verified this is working.
1) Make sure that the person is a member of the elders quorum. Prospective elders are assigned to the high priests group by default, so you need to make sure the person is a member of the elders quorum.
2) When you click the "Select" button to select the individual, you will need to change the "Office" drop list at the top right to "All."

Re: Assistant Ward Clerk - Prospective Elder
The other possible point of confusion is that you titled your post "Assistant Ward Clerk - Prospective Elder", but your post (and the replies) seems to be talking about an Assistant Elders Quorum Secretary. Requirements for an actual Assistant Ward Clerk would preclude a prospective elder from having that calling, but he should be fine for the EQ position.
