Laurel Advisor not able to edit

#1

Post by geekiemommie »

Hello. Our laurel advisor is not able to go in to the Lesson Schedule and edit to put her name as the one teaching. She doesn't see the Edit Pencil like the Presidency sees. Is this on purpose?

I think it would be nice with anyone that has a calling in YW be able to Edit it.

Or are we doing something wrong?

Thanks for your time!

The help file says "Organization leaders, such as elders quorum presidents and Sunday School presidents, as well as their counselors and secretaries, have rights to add classes for their organization but not events."

She'll need someone in the YW Presidency to make that changes. An adviser is too far down the line to do it.

We talked about this in our meeting, and sadly, no one wants to use this feature because the Advisors can't edit it. Is there anyway to change these permissions so they can use it?

Permissions are not adjustable. They are the same throughout the Church. The only way we know in which there is a chance to have a calling added to the permissions is to have your stake president pass up the request through to the Priesthood Department. But I really doubt that unless a lot of stake presidents ask for this change that it will come to pass.

The application only goes down to the "Young Women" level for built-in permissions. And it's not possible to grant permissions to the application. So unless the YW presidency steps up, it won't happen. Which begs the question, who is it that sets the lessons anyway? Isn't that supposed to be the same for all YW classes?

Basically, the YW Pres and Laurel Advisor are over the Laurels. 1st counselor and Mia Maid Advisor are over the Beehives. And 2nd counselor and Beehive Advisor over the Beehives.

If you look at the month of May for the curriculum for YW, there are 6 lessons to choose from. They like to switch back and forth who teaches, and they all want to go in and choose from which lesson.

This is not a huge deal, but it would be nice if the Advisors could pick their lessons, instead of having to tell the Presidency, and then them putting it in.

I'm sure you have a huge list of things to work on, so this is not a big deal. They'll probably just stick with Google Documents to track the lessons, is my guess lol.

Presidency members have edit rights by virtue of their calling. While there's not explicit "permissions granting" like in calendar, you can assign a single teacher for the course which will allow them to select the lessons for any given week. So in the case you've mentioned setting the advisor as the teacher for the course should allow them to select lessons for the weeks that they're teaching.

Okay, but how do you change the assigned teacher without deleting and recreating the whole thing? We have a new Laurel Advisor as of a month ago :)

Once the instructor for the class is entered when the class is created, that instructor cannot be edited. However, the instructor for each lesson can be edited. This might not be ideal but at least the entire class would not have to be recreated if the lessons the advisor is going to teach is known.
