I understand there is only 1 valid version of MLS that can be run on the church computer. Is there a way to load MLS (with no data) on a personal computer so I can learn what can and cannot be done in the system. This will allow me to create the custom reports my bishopric would like to see, it would enable me to be more efficient in my calling as Ward Clerk and will help me to put some training in place for the new members in the ward who were recently called into other positions.
Again, I don't want real data, just maybe create a fake record so I can play with assigning organizations or stuff like that.
*new* ward Clerk Jan 2014.

Re: MLS practice
That's debatable. In the past it has been allowed to install MLS on personal machines as long as live data isn't used. But the new guidelines says no installs on non-church machines - period. We're checking to see if that's the intent or if the use of the training database was overlooked.

This is what I have found in the Wiki. https://tech.lds.org/wiki/MLS_test_data
I have asked the Stk tech specialist to see if I can get the access, but have not heard yet. If you do hear anything Different Russellhltn, please let me know.

Re: MLS practice
That wiki article is the technical 'how to' for the test data installation. It references the 2009 policy letter which may have been superceded by the new meetinghouse technology policy on RKATS. The discussion in this thread is whether the new RKATS policy purposely eliminated the installation of MLS using the test data for training on home computers or whether this was an oversight. If the RKATS meetinghouse policy does supercede the 2009 letter and the prohibition against insalling MLS on a home computer to include use of the test data is what we would like further clarification about. The installation of MLS on home computers using live data has always been prohibited.Jester_ag wrote:This is what I have found in the Wiki. https://tech.lds.org/wiki/MLS_test_data
There is some information in the wiki that is out of date that it should not be a reliable source for policy. Much of what was in the wiki that covered policy has been moved to RKATS. The new meetinghouse policy on RKATS is the first policy that did not originate from an official notice or letter. That is one reason for the discussion in this thread.
