Need to change Unit Number

#1

Post by carlsonjf »

We are installing new unit computers for our whole stake. I missed a digit on the initial install of MLS so the unit number is incorrect.

1) Going into the Edit | System Options | Unit | Edit allows you to change everything except for the unit number.

2) Uninstalling MLS, removing the rest of the MLS folders by hand, rebooting and reinstalling MLS does not work. It remembers the admin account and the unit number that I originally used to do the first install.

3) Searching the registry with regedit did not yield anything - I searched for MLS as well as the faulty unit number only to find nothing.

4) I looked in \User\Clear\AppData to see if the data was cached there. Nothing.

I understand that changing the unit number is a bad & dangerous thing and we dont want people doing that, however, my use case is pretty compelling and I would like some help.

Thanks in advance,

Have you tried sending a message to mlssupport@ldschurch.org? That's what I would suggest to start...

Did you delete the c:\programdata\lds church\mls directory when you uninstalled? I believe that's where the unit data is stored.

Alternatively, did you try adding the correct unit using Edit > System Options > Unit > Other units using MLS on this computer? Once you've added the correct unit you should be able to log into that unit and remove the incorrect unit in the same place.

Log onto MLS using the erroneous unit ID and with a user account with administrator rights. Go to Edit > System Options > Unit. Click the Add Unit link in the fourth section of the tab. Add the unit using the correct unit number and name. Once the correct unit is added log out and then log back into the new unit. Select "Restore from a File" and restore a backup from a unit backup file that has the correct unit ID. Any changes made to the unit data after that backup file will be lost and will have to be re-entered.

With the unit properly set up and data restored from a backup file the incorrect unit (wrong ID number) can be deleted. Do this by logging on to the unit with the correct ID number using an administrator account. Go to Edit> System Options > Unit. Scroll the window down to the fourth section of the tab and click the "remove" link next to the incorrect unit number.
