Syncing donations from multiple units for tax statements
I am an assistant stake clerk in a YSA stake, and some ward clerks and bishopric members are wondering how to get newer members (within the last year) who declared in this stake all of their donation information (i.e., from other wards and stakes) synced to their current tax-valid statements. Is there a way to achieve this on MLS, or must the member request statements from every previous ward they attended in the year? Also, if it is achievable on MLS, how is this done?

Re: Syncing donations from multiple units for tax statements
Sometime soon, hopefully before the end of January, each ward should get a document downloaded in the Financial Statements section of MLS which has a page (or more) for each member of the unit who donated in more than one unit which lists all their donations for the year. These should be distributed to the members before the end of January.woodynyc wrote:I am an assistant stake clerk in a YSA stake, and some ward clerks and bishopric members are wondering how to get newer members (within the last year) who declared in this stake all of their donation information (i.e., from other wards and stakes) synced to their current tax-valid statements. Unless something has changed real recently, the donations in other units will not show up in MLS other than in this one PDF document.

Re: Syncing donations from multiple units for tax statements
Someone else will have to fill in the details, but I think there's limits on how well that works. In order for this to work, the other wards will have had to have the member's records and associated the donor to those records in order for it to sync.
Knowing how difficult it can be to stay on top of membership for YSA, I'd say accept what works, but don't be surprised if some have to resort to the old way of going back to each ward they donated to.

Re: Syncing donations from multiple units for tax statements
In the big scheme of things it really won't matter much for YSA's as the majority of them will not have the tax deductions needed in order to make itemizing the deductions an advantage for them.
