Authentication problems with Nexus 7

#1

Post by dongreen »

I'm the Stake Technology specialist and have receive some compliants of late from Nexus 7 users who can log in to the wifi due to authentication issues. People around them have no problem connecting with other devices. I've rebooted the firewalls and aps and can connect with my android device (cel phone). Anyone have any suggestions?

I did a quick search on the web for Nexus 7 authentication problems and found that the problem is quite widespread with the device. There did not appear to be one solution to fix this problem. Some said they got connected by manually entering the SSID and password. Others said they had success limiting the network band to "g' on the device. Still others said the device tried to connect without prompting for a password that resulted in the failed connection. The solution for these people was to press the "+" icon at the top of the screen to bring up the network list to select the appropriate SSID and then enter the password. Yet another solution was to clear the cache partition, have the Nexus "forget router", and manually enter the SSID and password.

All those solutions appear to me to point to auto-connect problems with Nexus 7. They need to get rid of any memorized settings for the LDSAccess network and set it up manually.

I'm also an STS and have a Nexus 7 (original model) and have never experienced connection problems at home or church. I'll play with it on Sunday and see if I can get it to fail to connect.

I'm a STS and have the new Nexus 7. I'll have to see what happens when I take it to church.

Note: there's a update for the Nexus 7 that came out this week: Android 4.4.2. It's possible that it could fix/change this behavior.

One of the users that had the problem did the update this past week and it didn't work for him then. I just received an email from him saying he was able to connect today without the authentication issue! He didn't do anything since the update and doesn't know why he can connect now and not in the weeks prior (and neither do I). I'll post anything that we discover.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm having trouble parsing that sentence. Are you saying that he did the update, but it didn't immediately solve the problem?

On issue I've noticed at my church - next door (in another building) is a church office. They have wifi, but is not connected to our system. While the SSID is "LDSAccess" they have a different password. So far it hasn't been a problem because we have a AP in that area of our building that's stronger. So the members are no likely to connect to the office building wifi.
