Adding Children to Household question

#1

Post by rashirtz »

My Branch president desires to put recently discovered children of a inactive member's household on the branch membership record, but does not have the DOB of the children. I have instructed him that MLS will not allow the children to be added to the Branch records without a DOB. So he wants me to "make up" false temporary DOB's for these children just to get them on the record for RS and EQ HT &VT until we later get the real DOB of the children.

I told him no, but he persisted. The District President said some kind of temp records could be made of these children, but again, I don't see how without the true DOB of the children, without risking adultrating the records.

Please advise.

My integrity would not let me do this. I would request a release before I created a record with false information

You also cannot be creating a record for children without the parents approval. If you get parents approval then you should also be able to get the information.

Adding these children to their parents' records requires all information to be accurate. See Handbook 1, 13.6, third paragraph.

No argument there. I said as much. I am building a case, so to speak, to convince both my Branch President, District President, and Mission president that this cannot be done this way. I've told my branch president, who is a serving in our branch as a Senior missionary, that as long as he keeps the incomplete child info in his area book, there is no concern about these newly discovered children in the household falling through the cracks. Further more, why not just straight out ask the parents for thier DOB's, so we can get the info correct?

At least I got the District President to see the problem with bogus DOB's, that the EQ ,RS, and Primary have no correct age reference for the child in question to address the childs needs. But he still says some kind of temp record can be made becasue we are a district. I have yet to find anything yet that says I can do this.

I have tried to tell both the Branch President and the District President that Clerks have a different line of authority, so to speak, to Church Records and finace and cannot be "creative" when it comes to records and finaces.

See Handbook 1; 13.6.2, Item #4. Permission of the parents is required to create the record.

Thanks! That will make my case airtight.

The Branch President might be thinking about adding a non-member record. I can't find any directive on that, but I know it used to be that permission was required to create it. You might check Membership Policies on the web. It's not allowing me to look at it since stake clerks do not deal in membership records.
