Is a child of converts considered a "Child of Record"?

#1

Post by nathangg »

We've had some families baptized in our stake this year and I was starting to say "Child of Record" when referring to their children.

However, I just found this: https://tech.lds.org/wiki/Child_of_record

"A child of record is a child (born to members of the Church) who has yet to be baptized. While the blessing of infants is not a saving ordinance and is not recorded on the Church's records, it is often used as the trigger for recording a birth and creating the new membership record for the child."

I'm getting hung up on "born to members of the Church"... these children were born before their parents were members of the Church... I can still say that they are "Child[ren] of record", though, right?

(Perhaps the wiki could/should be changed to "A child of record is a child (born to members or converts of the Church)"?

Thanks~!

The child was born to parents who are now members, right?

The important thing here is that the parents are members (as opposed to someone trying to declare the child of non-members as a child of record).

One thing worth noting with your situation: I doubt if the mission has created "child of record" records for these children. They may have recorded them on the parent's record, but that's not the same thing. It's up to the ward that first receives the records of the new converts to create the children's records.

The nice thing about the wiki is that anyone can edit it. I made the suggested change. I also changed "yet to be baptized" to "yet to reach the age of 9" to better match the official definition.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Yes. Their parents are now members. I'll also check with the ward(s) to see if there is a "child of record" record for these children.

THANK YOU for the help!
