Change marital status for do not contact member

#1

Post by Thaiboyzdad »

We have a member we know is married, but she is listed in church membership as unmarried. However, she is also listed as do not contact, so we cannot get her marriage information. How can I change her marital status so she does not show up in single adults, without have marriage date, husband name, etc.,?

Thanks,

This is irrelevant to the issue presented, but I am certain her membership record at church headquarters and in MLS is not annotated with "do not contact" as this is contrary to instructions. I am certain you meant to communicate that your local leaders and those assigned to home teach and visit teach know she has requested no contact. I mention this for the benefit of others who may mistakenly believe that membership records can be annotated with "do not contact".

U.S. marriage records are publicly accessable. If you know where the marriage is recorded you can view those records. Some records are available at no cost online. Other records can be viewed at the municipal office in which the records are recorded.

Knowledgeable family members who are more amicable to the Church may aso be helpful.

In addition to what JD has said, I'd also look at MLS and see what it's actually requiring. (By default, those fields will be in yellow.) In the case of a non-member spouse, I think you'll find the information is pretty minimal. Perhaps only a name.

Note that the name may show up in the on-line directory. You can call support to have it suppressed, but then the member will look as if she is single to the other ward members.

I'd not completely rule out some form of contact. Perhaps from the bishop or relief society president.

You can mildly back door this by entering the marriage through editing the individual profile instead of doing it through the marriages. You need way less information to keep MLS happy going in that way. If I remember right it is just spouse name/maiden name. Usually you can come up with enough to keep MLS happy here through questioning ward members. Just put it in your "to do pile" to keep hunting the rest of the information.
