In the following instructions the correct word would be 'then' instead of 'the'. It looks bad when a worldwide church cannot use the correct word.
Find a Leader
Find a Member or Leader Outside Your Stake
The directory will show only member information in your local ward or stake. For privacy reasons you cannot view member information in other stakes. However, you can request the information from the appropriate leaders through the LDS Maps tool.
1.From LDS.org, click Sign In/Tools and select Maps. (If you're already signed in, your name appears in place of the word "Sign In.")
2.In the search bar, type the address of the member you're trying to find. If you don't know the address, the type the city or unit name.
3.In the sidebar, the assigned ward corresponding to the location you searched for appears.
4.
Click the ward name. A pop-up box appears on the map with additional options.
5.Click the Leadership tab. Information for the unit leader appears. Contact the leader to request contact information for a member in the ward.

Re: incorrect word usage
The page referred to is the Finding Member or Leader Information page in the Directory help system.
Yes, there's a typo there. The recommended way to submit feedback for any issues you find on LDS.org is to use the Feedback page (you'll find a link to that page on the bottom of many pages on LDS.org).

Re: incorrect word usage
I couldn't find "Feedback" on that page. Thank you for the additional information.
