correcting born in covenant on existing member record

#1

Post by joshuakaycieslewicz »

The membership audit report contains a member who was adopted and sealed to the new family. However, apparently when the adopted son's membership record was originally entered the "born in covenant" checkbox was checked. Now the membership audit report indicates there is an error in that someone cannot be sealed to a family if originally born in the covenant. How do we correct this problem? This is not a simple matter of unchecking the box as MLS does not allow this. Is there a Church Records phone number to call? We have been working on this issue for many months now.

Have you tried a Special Request? If doing that, I would stress that this is adoptive parents. Otherwise, someone is going to look at the parent's sealing date and the child's birth date and conclude your request is in error. (MLS does not distinguish between birth parents and adoptive parents. It only has legal parents.)

Failing that, you can call Local Unit Support.

Just as a side note, if he child's birth mother was a member, there's a possibility he/she was born under the covenant. In which case (if I remember Handbook 1 correctly) you've got a different problem.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.
