I'd like to be able to select specific people to send email reminders to, such as Ward Council members. Is this possible?

Not currently. The messaging feature of Calendar only sends messages to those subscribed to the calendar and has set (turned on) the options to receive messages. The calendar editors do not get to choose to whom the notice is sent. They can only choose whether a notice is sent or not sent.

The ward council is a group of leaders for which you have to create your own mailing list and then send a notice manually.

Of course, this brings up the "work-around" that many wards have discovered using private calendars to send recurring reminders. Do you have a private leadership calendar with just the ward council members as viewers? Such a calendar could contain your ward council meeting as a re-curring event, set to send a reminder email....it would then send the reminders out for your council meeting at each appointed time, and any other meeting you set up in the same way, only to those subscribed so tell your ward council to keep subscribe to it to keep getting the reminders...

Yes, I know it's not a perfect solution....

So here is a one better feature request. Dynamic Distribution lists are really the answer. Just as you can assign permissions on the calendars to a calling instead of a person, we need the ability to create a distribution list of callings (and thus always up to date). Even if it wasn't something fancy that would actually send the email, just something that would give you the email addresses like the current directory does.
