members moved out list inaccurate

#1

Post by garthlanderson »

Hello, Our members moved out list frequently will show a member or members to have moved out, when in fact they have not moved, and their records are still in MLS in our ward. This seems to happen most frequently with people who have recently moved into our ward, and sometimes it is a child not long after a new child of record has been completed, though mostly it is completely random. We have had whole families or parts of families whose records disappear from our ward, only to (sometimes) have them return one day...Help!

I suspect the move-out list will show anyone who has moved out even if their records have come back. You may have to work with Local Unit Support to find out who has been moving records from your ward.

When you find a specific member that you feel shouldn't be on the Moved Out list, I'd recommend that you print or preview that member's membership record. That will show you the previous ward and date they moved into the ward. It may well be that the date they moved in will be surprisingly recent. In that case, knowing the previous ward will help you track down why the record was moved out and back in so recently.

Is this on lds.org, or from MLS?

Note that the "Date moved from prior unit:" shown on the printed membership record will NOT be the "Date you received the membership" if the record spent some time in the address unknown file.

True, but that would explain a different problem.
