What kinds of info should place portals contain that we're missing?

Having looked at a lot of place portals today, I noticed, among other things, that writers are struggling with what to include in the top box, the one with a picture representing the place. Some writers leave it blank other than the picture, while others fill it with information that isn't that useful or is just too obvious.

So that got me to wondering what we're missing. What kinds of information would be useful about a place that might go nicely into the top box -- or any box, for that matter?

I'd love to see some people study the flavors of information presented on place pages at worldgenweb, usgenweb, werelate, and other sites, as well as great genealogical reference books like Ancestry's Red Book or Everton's Genealogical Helper, and add to this discussion of what we're missing.
