If your access level (current calling) gives you access to the CDOL (cdol.lds.org) AND the individual you're interested in is currently holding a calling that lists them in the CDOL, you can sometimes view past callings there.

To do so you need to login to the web site then near the top right corner enter the name of the unit or their unit number into the box. This will take you to the unit you're interested in. Among the selections is a choice that will provide you with a list of current positions. If the person you're interested in is listed just click on their name.

I'm not sure how far back this goes and it doesn't include everyone.

It only includes certain callings as well.

So if I was a scoutmaster, it wouldn't have my dates of calling...?

As was mentioned, the CDOL doesn't include every position possible in the ward. However, the list is pretty good. I've included a snapshot of my own ward w/o any personal information. The category is quite extensive and each of the listed categories expands to show as a minimum the presidency. In your case, the Scoutmaster WAS shown.

Remember you have to currently have a position that would permit you access to the CDOL before you would be able to use it. Otherwise, you'd have to have a member of the Bishopric or ward clerk lend a hand.

No. Currently in a ward we have the history of Bishop's. We started a few years ago keeping Bishopric counselors, executive secretary and clerk. Same for branches. At the stake level we have the history of stake president, counselors, patriarchs and a few clerks and executive secretaries. Again a few years ago we started keeping the clerks (including assistants) and executive secretaries. Currently the rule is anyone that shows on the main page of a unit will be kept when released.

The other part of this picture is that to see historical positions you have to have additional rights. Stake and ward leaders only have those rights for their organizations and child organizations.
