Unknown File - NEW CLERK REQUIREMENT

This past Saturday, as I understand in many regions throughout the country, Bishops and Stake Presidencies were assembled to have a Leadership Training.

It was announced by Elder Halstrom to our group that the recent implementation of the 9-step lost sheep effort has been very successful, so successful in fact that they are sending, now, 20 new names each month BACK to the wards they came from to go through this process.

This program was supposed to start on May 1, 2013

Anyone else hear about this?

These meetings are scheduled throughout the world over the course of about a three- to four-year period.

In the meantime, perhaps they will send us an email or an MLS message, but since we were always supposed to be taking these actions before we sent a membership record out with no address, this is really nothing new for us, just an emphasis of something were were already supposed to be doing.

It is good to hear the process is working so well.

Seems to be every 2 years for us at this point.

Regardless, I'm worried about the continued push of Clerk work on Clerks. I will be suggesting an additional membership clerk in our wards/branches to follow up with 20 names per month, that is a large time commitment in my opinion.

The need for an additional membership clerk may be evaluated at the ward and stake level, of course. However, I would not expect the clerk to have to do anything more than take the names to the next ward council, where the bishop will make assignments.

Our home teachers, visiting teachers, quorum, group, and organization presidents handle the majority of the work. They bring the results back, and the clerk checks off the boxes and sends out the record.

Uhhhhh, you want to rephrase that? I'd think clerks should be doing clerk work. ;)

But the leg work should be farmed out.

:) right... Work on Clerks. There are many instances where clerks feel this is left to them, it isn't always easy to incorporate auxiliary leader Ht/Vt into this because isn't that the clerk's job is often the complaint --> which turns to clerks continuing to be piled on. It isn't always the case, but where it is the culture of a ward/stake is make life difficult.

Very true. If the clerk has always done the work, the other leaders continue to expect it.

A good bishop will help you turn it around, or will at least reinforce your suggestions that, for example, the elders quorum will take these families and try to locate them, the high priests will take these, and the Relief Society will do these. And please report back on these names at our next ward council.

And if you are really good, the executive secretary will take care of monitoring the assignments for you. [grin]

Personally, as a clerk I would keep the list of names and which organization was assigned. And I would help out with the process.

Lost Sheep?

Hi all,
I'm a new clerk and I have to move some records to the destination 'Lost Sheep'. I've looked all over the Leader and Clerk resources, Membership etc.
The process I'm trying is to go to the membership section, then ...
1. Move Records Out
2. Add any contact information at all that is known
3. Select Destination...
Its at this point that the record suddenly says 'Moved Out' and is gone, but the destination 'Lost Sheep' is nowhere to be found?
I'd really welcome any advice or observations anyone might have. Clearly I've got it wrong but I can't find any help on this.

The correct terminology is "address unknown".

I believe it's part of the Move out procedure. Someone with more current experience in LCR will have to chime in.

Note that there are a number of steps the ward needs to take before declaring "unknown".

The term "address unknown" doesn't actually appear in the process. All you do is leave the address blank and initiate the move. Then, because you left the address blank, you are required to certify that you performed the several steps to make contact or find the address. Clearly the first priority is to find the new address and supply it. However, if you're unable to find the new address and have indeed performed those steps, you can move the record out with no new address included.
