Wireless router not password protected and computer update/

Our ward computer has not been updated for a very long time. (More than 6 or 7 years) We are also still using an old CRT monitor. What is the normal rotation for upgrading the office machines. The computer is very slow and combined with all the other normal boot process can take as long as 5-10 minutes to boot.

Also the wireless router in our church house is wide open to all without even the standard username/password combination to get internet access. To me this is a security problem.

I would suggest you speak with your assistant stake clerk for technology (aka stake technology specialist) about both of these issues.

Administrative computers should be replaced after five years by the FM Group. Different FM Groups have different policies concerning monitors. In our area, the monitor is replaced when it fails.

And the STS can work with your stake Physical Facilities Representative (normally a high councilor) and the FM Group to manage your building Internet/WiFi setup and bring it into the real world.

They CPU should be cycled out every 5 years. No such requirement for the monitor, but the FM group may replace it at the same time.

I've also had units claim that they had a "old" machine. I told them to check the sticker on the back - it was only 4 years old.

You can check the actual date by putting in the vendor number to see how old the system is. While it was actual written policy to budget for the replacement of clerk computers in the 4th year to be replaced in the 5th year, that policy was not ever actually followed by many FMG. Last year, directions came down through command central to all FMG to investigate and budget for every computer that was over 5 years old.

If your computer is truly 5 years old, it should've been budgetted for to be replaced this year. Those funds are already available to FM, and I would suggest as others to contact your STS and/or PFR for your planned upgrade.

I'm not sure what that procedure is, but all computers should have a date on them that indicates the date they were made. On the Dell CPU it may be on the "service tag" sticker, or it may be on the one where it lists the voltage and current requirements.

That's likely something that was installed "locally" before the church started supplying the equipment. Again, that falls under the STS.
