Why the long title for Clerk and STS Support?

#1

Post by aebrown »

As I was perusing the list of forums on this site, I noted that the parent forum for many of the forums is one called "Clerks and Stake Technology Specialists Support". That's quite a mouthful -- it's the longest forum title by far.

But the main question I have about that title is that it seems to be redundant. By policy, all Stake Technology Specialists are assistant stake clerks. Therefore, "Clerk Support" would seem to mean the same thing in a lot fewer words (I prefer the singular "Clerk" over "Clerks" when preceding the initial sibilant of "Support").

It's no big deal, but "reduce and simply" -- right?

If you remember that STS used to be called something like "Assistant Stake Clerk over Computers", yes. But if I was a new STS, I'd probably need to see my title in the list before it dawned on me that it was more then just the details of Membership and Financial procedures. Unless a STS has done a stint as a clerk, they may not feel like a one.

While the title is long, I think it's completely proper and communicates its purpose. The key to simplifying it would be to simplify the Stake Technology Specialist title.

I have to agree, even though it is long I think the name is needed to best identify the focus. Perhaps we could just put STS instead of the full name?

Well, that's more dignified then "Stake Geek". :)

I like that suggestion. It's simple, should attract the attention of all the right people, and it matches the parallel pages at http://clerk.lds.org.

I am fine in changing it if it can be done. Tom needs to weigh in on that.

Since this is MSR's forum, if they are fine with the change I'll make it.

I want you to know that I resemble that remark. (I'm a stake technology specialist). ;)
