Brother 8810DW - scanning

#1

Post by dcook3712 »

Our clerk purchased a Brother Printer/Scan/Fax machine for our clerks office at a good deal. Our bishop wanted AirPrint capabilities. When we first set it up the AirPrint service would drop when it went to sleep mode. We changed the IP address to a static IP address in the secured range and we have been good with Air Print since. We were able to connect via the static IP address to the clerk's computer for printing and the Copy function works fine.

The problem is with the Scan function. Our bishop wanted us to scan some pictures for a missionary application and we could not get it to work. The printer comes with scan software which was installed on the clerk's office but the software will not talk with the Printer/Scanner. Is this is a Sophos issue? The physical firewall issue?

The Scan button on the printer only allows for scan to email but when an email is entered it says that it is not registered and does not send.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated?

If this is the only way to get it scanned - wow - cumbersome.

Scanning to print (not over the network) shouldn't be a SOPHOS issue but you'd have to ask your administrator to be absolutely sure.

Printing locally shouldn't be an issue at all - even from the scanner.

Make sure your software is the newest version by visting the Brother website for that model - some retailers are selling very "old' (older than a year) machines and their softwares could very well have updates that fix some of what you are experiencing.

Since it seems the software on the computer reaches out to the scanner, probably not Sophos. If the two static IPs are not on the same subnet, then perhaps it is a physical firewall issue. You'd probably be better off making sure both the computer and printer are on the same subnet.

Did you configure the printer's static IP in the scan software?
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

When it was setup originally it was set for USB and not the network. I uninstalled the printer software and then reinstalled with the network configuration and I think we are in good shape now.

Thanks for your reply it helped me think clearly on the issue.
