Other duties for clerks?
You know, sometimes we are asked to do some things "out of the book" following the spirit of D&C 58:26-29 . For example, writing and sending invitations for Sacramental meeting speeches, having audio/video system ok also. I'd like to know your experiences about this. Thanks.

Its my belief that the clerks job is to take on as many of the administrative tasks as possible.

And sometimes even suggest to the Bishop, "I can handle that for you, Bishop."Gary_Miller wrote:Its my belief that the clerks job is to take on as many of the administrative tasks as possible.
He has plenty of load on his shoulders without doing things that others can do. The problem is some bishops are not very good at delegating. As the Clerk, you can help him by handling all the little details you can so he can focus on the big things he cannot delegate.

I worry about the escallation of busywork. Just because one person is good at something and is happy to add it to his routine duties doesn't mean it would be an easy task for the next guy to have that calling. It is my belief that, on a regular basis, we should consult the handbook for the definitive list of duties and we should eliminate the "busywork" duties that have been piled onto a calling.
