Can't disable user right to change time
New installs, Dell 7010s running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit.
To prevent a massive borking of MLS it has been recommended in the past that PCs have the user right to change the system time be disabled. Normally this is done in the policy editor under User Rights Assignment by removing Users and Administrators from the user/group list, but with this new installation both of those are already missing, leaving (theoretically) only SYSTEM and LOCAL SERVICE with the right to change the time - and yet I am still able to do so.
Any thoughts?

That was actually 3-4 reboots into the process. Can't figure out where the user is getting rights to change the time.

Just to make sure, were you following the direction in this link?
What is "Local Service"? I don't see that on my Win7 Pro machine. If it's a group that the user belongs to, then that's the problem.

Re: Can't disable user right to change time
On our computer (running Windows XP Professional) the right to change the time appears to have been disabled by Church Headquarters... unless the STS was able to sneak in and do it when I wasn't around. I just can't imagine anyone in our Bishopric nor our ward clerk figuring out how/why to do it.

Re: Can't disable user right to change time
I disabled it on every machine as I staged them. This was the first time I've run into a system I couldn't tweak like that. (And it appears it is already tweaked, that's the weird part)

TEM disables the ability to alter the time, by default.

Yes, CHQ announced they were going to start doing that. But many of us have been doing that long before.mrrad wrote:On our computer (running Windows XP Professional) the right to change the time appears to have been disabled by Church Headquarters...

Hmmm... maybe it took effect at a later time after one of the later reboots. I will admit that once I checked and was able to change the time I didn't revisit the issue as it was getting late.Biggles wrote:TEM disables the ability to alter the time, by default.

Re: Can't disable user right to change time
I can understand why changing the time is such a big deal. The problem that I am running into now is that the computers in my stake are starting to fail. More specifically, the bios battery is starting to fail. If the wards to let me know that they are getting a warning the battery is low, then I don't know they are about to have problems. When the battery fails, the date and time is reset to a time in the past, well before we even put these computers into service.Biggles wrote:TEM disables the ability to alter the time, by default.
Without the ability to change the time and not realizing it, some wards are trying to use MLS with a date in the past. Even if they do notice, they do not have the ablility to resolve the issue without going into the bios. While many members have the skill level to getting into the bios and changing the date/time, many members and leaders may change other settings without knowing.
Did I miss some announcement for the Stake Technology Specialists about this change to remove the ability to change the date/time?
