How do we request to decrease the lease time?

Short question: how do we request to decrease the lease time on LDSAccess in our building?

I've read http://tech.lds.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... 4e22d238ca but didn't see any answers.

Long Story:
Interesting thing happened on January 8th:

We had 2 visiting General Authorities (from the Seventy) + our entire stake presidency come to our ward. They wanted to come out our ward to see how the new Sunday School Curriculum was being implemented.

I was pulled out of my Sunday school class to give the wireless password to a member of our stake presidency because he was trying to use the wireless to show a video.

It wasn't until later when I tried to get on the wireless that I realized there was a bigger problem: it wasn't working properly (I confirmed with 3 other people that it wasn't handing out new IP addresses... my phone had an internet connection but my computer couldn't get one.

I returned to the church building on Tuesday evening and everything was working great.

I'm wondering how we can decrease the lease time of the IP addresses and I was wondering who to ask about doing that.

(unless you think something else was the problem).

Thank you~!

(Sorry: I should clarify: the only reason for mentioning the general authorities and stake presidency was that it felt somewhat embarrassing to realize they were trying to use the wireless but were unable to do so).

Talk to your stake technology specialist (STS). He is responsible for all technology in the stake. As such he is the single point of contact in working with Church headquarters, in this case the global service center (GSC), for any configuration changes to the Church provided firewall in your building.

Odds are it's has already been done.

Note that was a church-wide problem with the wireless system on that date.

Please note that that's not really supported
  • The meetinghouse connection is only residential-grade (and probably not one of the higher grades)
  • It's being shared with a large number of people.
  • The church has stated that their servers may not be able to smoothly stream video on Sundays.
Bottom line, you shouldn't be streaming video over the Internet. The one exception is for conference, but in that situation, you need to cut off all the other access to the Internet by shutting off wireless.

People wanting to show video as part of class should be downloading it before the class so as to avoid spirit-killing problems with the playback.

Both of the previous answers are correct, just to elaborate though.

I am assuming you have an 881w. If the firewall was activated in the past 6 months or so, then by default it will have a 30 minute lease time. If the firewall was activated previous to that by default it is two hours. Like mentioned before, if that is the case your STS can call the Global Service Center where that can be changed. (It's worth noting many of the firewalls activated before they changed the default have been changed manually, as a previous poster also mentioned.)

If by some chance you are running an older firewall, all bets are off as to what it is currently set to. More often than not its set to about one hour as that's the default on the ASA5505, but it varies.
