Why the oddball ISOM codec on videos?

We are using LCD projectors for the Come Follow Me videos. We play the videos off an SD card. The only problem is that the CODEC the videos are compressed in is an odball codec "ISOM" and they won't play on 4 different projector's media players that I have tried. I have to convert all the videos to MPEG codecs before they will play.

Why is the church using this oddball codec instead of an industry standard codec like MPEG?

Thanks,

Charlie Morgan

Strange, all the videos I've downloaded are MP4.

Could you provide a direct link to the media you are referring to? Everything we have looked at so far is and should be AVC codec.

A reader on the blog posted a comment here https://tech.lds.org/blog/553-help-reso ... mment-2283 noting similar issues in playing the downloaded videos from the zip file. Glendon writes:
I downloaded several videos (huge downloads btw) and I've tried 7 video players and several will only play audio and the players that will play audio are very choppy and the audio will not match up with the video. I wasn't able to find a single one that played correctly (Mobo, Mobo Pro, Es Media player, MX Player, Showtime Player Panel, Vital Player and VPlayer). Feeling like it was just bugs due to new software I almost gave up but decided to just download all the video's on my desktop and upload them to my tab (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (4.0.4 IMM76D)) After I downloaded them and attempted to extract them I came across an error in regards to encryption. I continued (not skip) through all the errors and ended up with all the videos and then put them on a USB drive and using the usb to Samsung Tab interface I uploaded the videos to the tablet. All the video's play without any problem leading me to believe that it is not in fact an error with the player or codec but the app. Good luck dev

I touched base with the encode team and got the following response:

"The Brightcove Mezzanine files that we send to Brightcove are H.264 "avc1" in an mp4 wrapper with standard frame rates and profiles and Levels. I am not sure if that is what he is downloading or if it is a 1mbps version, or if it's coming from a Brightcove transcode. Any ideas? Could I get a copy of the exact file? That would be a huge help."

Can you tell us from what location you downloaded the files? Did you download the zip or download each file separately? If we can mirror the same process maybe we can narrow down the issue. Thank you.
