Address privacy

How can I make our family's home address (including Google map link) not visible publicly? Shouldn't this be a security decision left to each individual member/household?

There are two places a member 18-years-old or older can set the privacy settings. The first is in the Ward Directory and Map online at ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Once at the Ward Directory and Map scroll down to your household name and select it. Click the edit icon (pencil in blue sphere) in the lower right of the household information frame. Select the Privacy tab. Make the changes as desired to any or all of the items available. Click the "Learn More About Privacy link for information on the privacy settings and how they affect information visibility. If the privacy settings for any member of the household need to be more restrictive than set for the household then click on the household member's name and follow the same procedures as for the whole household. Note that household privacy settings will override individual privacy settings if the household settings are more restrictive.

The second place to make changes to the privacy settings is in Member Tools. Just as in the online Ward Directory and Map, the procedures are much the same - at least for android systems. I can't speak to the procedure in iOS Member Tools. Just find your household name in the Member Tools Directory and tap the name. The edit icon is a pencil in a red sphere in the lower right of the screen. From there follow the same procedures as for the online Ward Directory and Map described above.

And it is. However, the bishop, ward clerk, and ward clerk - membership, can make those changes for those who need assistance.

Keep in mind that depending on the setting, at worst, no one outside of the stake will see that information. As such, it's not really "public" in the usual sense.

You can restrict it to just ward members, and even just leaders. But even then, members of the ward council can see it.
