LDS Account is the primary user account (user name and password) for accessing online Church resources. This forum is a space to discuss all things related to LDS Account (registration, account recovery, user experience, vulnerabilities, etc.).

issues setting up new account

Hi,

I attempted to help somebody set up their LDS membership account through lds.org and they accidentally entered the incorrect email address, therefore we never received the verification code through email. When we try to go back and create another account we receive a message saying "an account already exists". How can we resubmit a request to open an account in this case? We are in the process of trying to register for the Pathways program and cannot move on because of this.

There may be other answers in the forum as well, but that's all I could readily find. This is the bottom line from that thread, written by moderator jdlessley:

Starting over is not really an option. But you can work through your ward clerk who can, on her behalf, call the GSC to recover the account.

You have a few choices. You can either create another account, using a different Username (without the LDS Membership number, if applicable) and simply not verify the account associated with the incorrectly entered email. If it's not verified, it will be removed from the system in 24-48 hours, which will then "free up" the membership number to be added to the second account created.

OR

You can just wait the 24-28 hours until the unverified account is removed from the system, and try again (using the same username) with the correct email and associated information.

Thank you for that excellent answer! It's very useful to know that the system will free up everything connected with an unverified account after 24-48 hours. In the future, if I see similar new questions, this thread will be the one to refer to.
