MRN number correct but still show as non-member

My friend registered on lds.org and entered his MRN and yet he is still denied access to any members information and told he is a nonmember. He has been unable to correct this.

Did the MRN "take"? Is it still on his account? How much time has past? I know for some functions, it can take a day before resources for a new calling becomes available.
The only other thing I can think of if that his membership may not be in any ward right now.
