this page recognizes my username and password, but the access page to familysearch does not recognize it. I have attempted to change my password 3 times using the process you provide, but all attempts to use new passwords fail.

How long did you wait? I've found it can take awhile for all the different sites to get the new password. If you haven't changed it since you posted, it should work now.
