Re-registering for and LDS account

Postby hotrob » Sun Aug 21, 2016 4:20 pm

My son created an account years ago and has forgotten all information (user name, password, ect.). We are trying to reopen an account but all we get is MRN is invalid or account already exists. Is there anyway to remove that account and start over?

Have you tried using the recovery options at LDSAccount.LDS.org?
https://ldsaccount.lds.org/recovery

You can recover the username using the Membership Record Number option, then recover the password.

Yes. Because he signed up for this account when he was 12 (he's now 18) he did not have a mobile phone, we cannot remember an email that he had at that time, and it gives it give us a response that his MRN is invalid or account does not exist. When we try to register using his MRN, it says that it is invalid or that the account already exists. We have double checked his MRN on his membership records to make sure we have the correct number.

Sbradshaw, has the church finished linking emails that are listed on members LDS accounts with what is listed in the ward directory? I'm wondering if these members can see what email is listed in the directory to see what email could have been potentially used to set up the account.

Ok, help me out here. If I click on the "lost username" link, I have the option of using the MRN to recover the username. It wants my birthdate, but it told me my username without involving my email or my mobile number.

I did not continue to reset the password, but again, I seem to have the option to reset via just MRN and birth date. So I'm not understanding why it's required to have access to the old email.
Have you searched the Wiki?
Try using a Google search by adding "site:tech.lds.org/wiki" to the search criteria.

That's a good thought.

Can you see your son's recorded email address in the LDS.org Directory? If so, maybe you can use that email address to help you recover.
