Unable to save.

I tried to log in to lds.org/donations to pay my tithing and the system indicated that I needed to add a primary email address. It to the to the account settings page where I tried to up my email address. The save button will spin for a second and then the go back to normal. Nothing appears on the screen. I had a friend come over and see if he could help. He found that the call was generating an error message that the country was not set. So we tried setting email and phone and same behavior happened. We tried to update the country on the main section and it didn't work because there is no drop down for country. Looking at the request it appears the my account doesn't have a country assigned to it.

Can you please help?

Have you tried another computer or another browser? Without starting any browser religious wars, I've been told that church websites do best with Chrome.
Have you searched the Wiki?
Try using a Google search by adding "site:tech.lds.org/wiki" to the search criteria.

If you are not able to set your email address at your LDS Account, ask your clerk to contact the Global Service Center with you for assistance.

I have been unable to save the e-mail address in lds.acount

You were in the right place, then. Try another computer or gather some other ideas from your clerk. He can also connect with the Global Service Center if you and he are not able to solve the problem otherwise.
