Single Sign In Not Working as Before

Single sign in is not working between LDS.org and LDSTech in both directions. I can sign into either site and then navigate by hyperlink to the other site and not be signed in. All the hyperlinks used to navigate from one site to the other are using https in the URL. This began to happen late today. Earlier in the day the single sign in was working fine.

The above behavior happens when using Firefox 18.0.1. The single sign in works in Chrome going from LDSTech to LDS.org. But it doesn't work when going from LDS.org to LDSTech.

I don't see the behavior you describe. I am also using Firefox 18.0.1. I can sign in to LDS.org, then go to LDSTech and I am signed in. If I sign in first to LDSTech, then go to LDS.org, I am still signed in. I can sign out from either site, and I'll be signed out from the other. In short, it works for me exactly how anyone would expect Single Sign On to work.

I closed both browsers, started them again, cleared the cache for both, and tried again. I got the same results. Going from LDSTech to LDS.org not only does not carry the sign in with it but I am signed out of LDSTech. And the same thing when I open LDS.org, sign in and go to LDSTech.

I'm going to try it again. Except I am going to reboot my computer this time - not that that should make any difference.

I find that if I log into LDSTech forum, then open a new tab to https://lds.org, that I'm not signed in on lds.org. If I do anything on LDSTech forum, I find that I'm signed out.

This is under Chrome.

I can duplicate that with Chrome (but not Firefox). For some reason, when you go to https://lds.org on Chrome, it redirects to http://www.lds.org (Chrome hides the "http://" part of the address). And of course, as has been well documented, going to lds.org using http will sign you out. Why Chrome chooses not to respect the explicit choice of https and instead redirects to http is a mystery to me. IE9 seems to do the same as Chrome.

It seems that some of the redirection that the home page of LDS.org does is going to http, even if it was accessed via https. That sounds like a configuration error to me.

This time around the Chrome experience was the same, probably for the reasons just stated by aebrown.

Going from LDSTech to LDS.org was fine for Firefox. But going from LDS.org to LDSTech was different the first three times I tried it. The first time was fine. The second time the menu bar for LDSTech showed me signed in but instead of the LDSTech home page I got this message:
Your session has expired. Please log in again.
Registered Area
Welcome to the registered user area of our site.
The third time I was logged out.

I cleared the cache and tried it again. Going from LDS.org to LDSTech worked fine. The only problem I am now noticing is going from LDS.org through the menus to get to the RKATS page and clicking on "User Forum" results in the single sign on not transferring. I think the URL ("https://tech.lds.org/forum/forumdisplay ... gy-Support") for that link does not redirect correctly. It redirects to the URL "http://tech.lds.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=42#".

Using Chrome, I did an "open link in new tab" from the link russellhltn had in his post and had no problems being signed in.

Using Firefox, I find that when I log into LDSTech and then move to LDS.org, the header says I am not signed in, but I really am, and if I go anywhere or refresh the page, the header changes to correctly show my status. The drop down menu follows what the header thinks my status is, i.e., no Leader of Clerk menu below the line at first, but there as soon as I refresh to go somewhere.

It seems the header has always been a step behind for me.

When I sign in at LDS.org and then move to LDSTech, I am still signed in, and LDSTech so indicates.

I just saw this thread and agree that something has changed recently such that it doesn't work quite as well as it did before. I haven't taken the time to try to figure out the exact scenario, but I've seen cases where LDS.org says i'm not signed in, but I really am, and I've also seen cases where I get signed out accidentally (I haven't seen this too often...maybe it was a case of an http instead of an https).

Agreed. SSO seems to not work even on the same domain. Please also check to help SSO work across domains, such as from LDS.ORG to Familysearch.org. This isn't fun to open a new tab and be logged out of the thing I was just using.
