I'm trying use the new "Microsoft Security Essentials" since the release of the alpha version last week. It's a good choise for Windows machines.

i have tried almost every anti virus notron mcafee ca. What i think is every anti virus is a virus in it self. Personally i don't use any and i never even had any virus.

Where i work we use ubuntu we dont have problem with virus, I think Ubuntu its a very friendly and useful linux distro, even you can have itunes on ubuntu. it does make sense to use linux when you understand the difference between an office suit and an operating system, a lot of people doest like ubuntu beacuse the dont see microsoft word (open office its what they see) as long as you have a legal microsoft license you can run microsoft office on ubuntu. so why spent money and time with vius at home if you can have a OS that wont have that problem (sometimes there isnt:) money to buy a mac) No virus with ubuntu!!!

For business! This way money move from pocket to pocket, pay tax, eccetera, eccetera, and all live happy!
There's nothing better than create problem to find (and sell) solutions!
I use Linux in every pc I own, even if I'm forced to buy Windows with it, I always install and use Linux. And yes, Ubuntu (11.04) is my present OS.

But when an OS is, by it self, an antivirus, maybe some reason to be named exist!

When it comes to antivirus, I'm using AVG Free (current version 9.0) and the free K9 Web Protection, which blocks spyware and malware sites, and they actually have a team that runs those down then adds them to the filter database.

A new one that has surfaced recently in the last few years is Cloud Antivirus. Uses an off-PC database, much the same way K9 operates for content filtering, which means as soon as a virus and/or malware source is found, you're protected from it. http://www.cloudantivirus.com/ only works for XP and above in case there are still any that use Win2000. I think they even display on their site the latest stuff going down so you know how recent they've updated, which is often faster for the home market than most of the home solutions out there, as comprehensive as any business solution antivirus, but is free to the home user.

I am partial to Microsoft Security Essentials. Its free, effective, and efficient. Runs on XP, Vista, and Win7. I've been using it for about 2 years. I've used eset, avg, Norton, Symantec, and mccafee. To much noise and random firewall issues turned me off to those.

I've heard much good about the Microsoft offering. I would think that using that, Cloud Antivirus, and K9 content filtering with its spyware/malware sources/effects ratings would trap almost everything. I've also heard that Kaspersky is good for a home user as well.
