Indexing in Spanish and other languages

Does anyone know if there are plans to release the Family Search Indexing software in Spanish or any other languages?

I ask for two reasons. First, our Stake (here is Utah) has two Spanish speaking Wards that would like to do Indexing, but some members don't know English well enough to be effective. Second, if the Church wants to make the Indexing effort international, a multi-language interface is going to a key success factor.

If the software was designed properly I can't imagine that it would be that hard to translate all the words in the GUI and include an option to select a language when you start the program. I'm sort of surprised that this isn't already the case.

I think this is a great idea.

I believe they may be going that direction, as some of the instructions for some of the packages are in Spanish. http://www.familysearchindexing.org/fsi ... rojectsTab and click on one of the Spanish packages. The instructions should come up in Spanish.

My wife is from Guatemala, and she was really excited when they put Spanish work up.

It would also be nice if some instructions could be added to the site on how to change your keyboard configuration so that accented characters can be entered more easily. My wife was about ready to go back to extracting English names, until I figured out how to switch her keyboard to an international mode. Now to type the vowels with acute accents, she just has to hit ' before typing the letter in question.

Alternatively, they could add a feature to the program to make it easier to type them without requiring that the user change their keyboard layout. As it stands now, the only other way to type those characters is to select them from a list, which is rather inconvenient.

Just dug up the following bit of information:

How to Access Spanish Instructions for
the 1930 Mexico Census

We are very excited to have the 1930 Mexico
Census available as a FamilySearch Indexing
project. Anyone in your stake who speaks either
Spanish or English may help index these records.

The instructions are available in both languages. To
access the instructions in Spanish, do the following:

1. From the data entry screen, click the Project Information tab.
2. Click Indexing Project Homepage.
3. In the sentence Aprete aquí para Español, click Español.

You can also change the language of the application
to Spanish by doing the following:

1. At the top of the data entry screen, click Tools.
2. Click Options.
3. Click Language.
4. Click the drop down arrow in the Application Language box, and select Spanish.
5. Close the application, and log back in for the change to take effect.

You can change the language for the field names at
the top of each column and the field helps in the
right bottom corner by doing the following:

1. At the top of the data entry screen, click Tools.
2. Click Options.
3. Click Language.
4. Click the drop down arrows in the boxes titled Language for Field Names and Language for Field Help, and select Same as Document.
5. Close the Work Screen, and reopen the batch for the change to take effect.

The Tutorials will be translated into Spanish as soon
as possible.

This works well if you are the only one who uses Indexing on a computer. For a Family History Center it would make more sense to have an option to select the language on the logon screen.
