Hi all.

Many individuals have expressed some frustration on the inaccessibility of some of the Church's technologies. This forum will hopefully become a place where such issues can be discussed, feedback can be given, and ideas and solutions generated. Part of the problem is that we haven't identified all of the areas in which there is a problem, so if you have encountered problems or know someone who has, please post the details or point the effected persons to this forum.

Captcha is a problem for blind users.

1) This forum uses captcha to sign up.

2) The forum uses captcha to send a "contact us" message if not logged in. (Catch-22)

3) new.familysearch.org uses captcha as part of the signup process.

Google has a Captcha workaround. They have put a small wheelchair symbol next to the input box where you can listen to the letters. That might be one way to fix the problem you described.

I know there is work being done on DAISY digital talking book version of the the scriptures but I have go ahead and made up a set along with the Bible in various formats and other works. You can find them at http://www.cucuat.org/books.php

Flash is problematic for the blind as it is not accessible on Macintosh OS computers with VoiceOver.

Can <alt> plus tthe text be read by the Mac software cited?

Can alt text tags be placed behind Flash images?

If so, can the Mac software also catch that and read the alt text back?

Flash / Flex don't work well on windows, either. Adobe says it is accessible, but practice shows it is very hard to make Flash accessible.
