Can someone help me please?
Because I use both my computer and laptop when using PAF I have found that I have worked on 3 separate PAF databases. When I try to merge them it will merge the information from one database into the original but when I try to merge the second data base I lose the information from the first merge - any ideas please?

You'd probably get better help by searching for PAF specific support groups. This is a very general "techie" site and not really setup for support at this time.

A quick search turns up this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PAF5-USERS/ It looks like a good place to ask.

I would recommend using PAF Insight. Insight will allow you to compare two PAF databases side by side and see only the records that are different and then update that information. Most Family History Centers have this program available to use in the Centers. For more information about PAF Insight do a Google search for PAF Insight.

PAFInsight can be used at most FHC (Family History Centers) or can be downloaded or purchased from Ohana Software http://www.ohanasoftware.com. Another suggestion is that you date all of your paf files. sueki033107 and the next time you work on it update to new date you work on it. This allows you to know the most recent and backup that one to move and restore between your laptop and desktop. Then if you do have to merge it is very little and ony two files.

PAF Future

There is an answer about the future of PAF in the Q&A section of this site:

http://beta.tech.lds.org/index.php?opti ... &Itemid=83

It appears the plan is for third party vendors to make add on capablilities available for PAF, but no plans for a new version. This would be similar to the way PAF Insight works now.

There is also mention of a "FamilySearch Desktop" application to be developed as an open source program that can be used on the desktop to work with newFamilySearch.

Where does one obtain the PAF Add-in software development kit (SDK) mentioned in the Q&A - or is this still in the works?

I do not know, you could try sending a message to Gordon (see Member List) and ask him. There are already add on programs for PAF like PAF Insight and PAF Pal, so they may already have some type of kit available.
