The church should create a video similar to those on commoncraft.com (see here for example) to introduce FamilySearch. These commoncraft videos are very entertaining and informative, but most importantly simple. It would be a great way to get people excited about the new FamilySearch website.

I may give this a shot in the next few weeks if I have time.

Church Videos in plain english - thoughts?

OK, I finally got around to making a video --only it's related to Proposition 8 in California, not Family Search. Now that I've made 1 video, I'm thinking of making more. Specifically, I'd like to make a series of videos related to the Mormon church. For example:
  • The Plan of Salvation in plain english
  • The Book of Mormon in plain english
  • The Restoration in plain english
  • etc
The target would be investigators or those trying to learn more about the church. At the end, each video would direct the audience to mormon.org for more info. These videos could be shared by members with their non-member friends and family. They would be a simple, fun way to help people understand our beliefs.

Anyone have any thoughts? Concerns? Suggestions?

Here's an example of a video I made a few weeks ago. This will give you an idea of the style/format I'm thinking.

I like your idea, sounds like a good way to get a point across. I would like to see something done in the area of Family History like this.

It's been a long time coming, but I finally got around to making a video for FamilySearch. They wanted something aimed at a younger audience (20-30yrs old) which might get them interested in getting started with family history work. This was kind of a departure from my original idea, which was to make a video explaining to members of the church the difference between the new FamilySearch and the old methods of doing family history work (e.g. PAF). But I think this video will grab some eyeballs and hopeful drive some traffic their way.
