I wiped out the News and Events link on the sidebar (left navigation bar) today. It led to a page that hasn't been updated in three months. Doesn't seem like a very newsy page. :o

The intent of including this link in the nav bar was to make it so that users could check international genealogical news from anywhere in the site without having to go to the home page. However, we're not using the News page this way. Interestingly, although the page the nav bar links to hasn't been touched in three months, the right News and Events boxes are updated much more frequently.

Therefore, partly because some users are calling for simplification (read: link removal) on the nav bar, I've removed this link, at least for now, at least until we have the desire and have developed the habit of keeping the News and Events page current.

A good replacement might be a page listing current or future projects :)

I would agree that for now, that can be removed. In the future, I definitely can see it being used for international events, news about the Wiki, news about FamilySearch in general, etc.
