Wanted: How to add link to Toolbox pane on nav bar

Postby ritcheymt-p40 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 7:59 pm

Today I'm going to link from the wiki's navigation bar to this forum to help our contributors get here, but I'm putting the link in a nav pane where it probably doesn't belong (the Navigation pane) rather than the one where it probably does belong (the Toolbox pane) simply because I don't know how to access the latter. Can anyone tell me what the name of the page is that I must edit to edit the Toolbox pane?

The reason I think the link to this forum should go in the Toolbox is that most of the links there are interesting to site developers/contributors, whereas the links that are interesting to regular users are on the Navigation bar (Sidebar).

Nice; I found the answer on http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Interface/Sidebar#content_of_sidebar_and_toolbox_.28javascript.29

Turns out the Toolbox pane is dynamically generated in Java, so adding links to it is not a task for a non-engineer like me. :( I still think the link to this contributors' forum should go there. How about you?

What about moving the items on the feedback page into this forum and then change the feedback page to have information and a link to this forum? That could fix it anywhere that refers to it. As you said, the Toolbox gets dynamically built and changes on different pages. If it is in the Toolbox, it probably should be there all the time?
