I found several pages with an alphabetic listings of words. More word lists are probably available.
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Czech_Word_List
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Afrikaans_Word_List
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Hungarian_Word_List

This one has the headings for each letter making the regular TOC huge.
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Icelandic_Word_List

To me, this type of page to way too long and it would be much nicer if were done differently. For example, the current page with a link over to a separate page with the alpha TOC and the long list of words. I have not found a way to have two TOCs on it, one at the top (as is now) and a separate one (alpha) in the middle of a page (with the current editing functionality, headings, etc. but not in the regular TOC). Okay, I would guess it one could probably be created, but it sure seems like it would be a pain.

I think it would also be nice to be able to have the words in columns to cause the page to be shorter. However, I would not want to cause someone to have to keep moving the column break to make the columns fairly balanced.

Any thoughts on these topics?

Yeah, we should probably move the lists discussion to a new thread.

Good point. I will do that AFTER I have the parsing functions extension and the alpha TOC so it can be demonstrated. Sound reasonable?

I saw a few days ago that Darris (if I remember correctly) was playing with Template:Reflist. This particular template also uses the parsing functions extension. It also uses the extension <references />. You can find the information here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite/Cite.php

So, if we want reference citations, we will need this extension installed.

Looking through the http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_Matrix, I see a SpellCheck extension. I do not know if it works with the editor we are using.

It sure would be nice if we could view a list of all extensions that have been installed. I found that I could view the templates through Special:AllPages and then select namespace Template or directly through:
https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Specia ... s/Template:

I can select namespace Extension at:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:AllPages
or directly at:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:A ... /Extension:
I believe other ways exists to get to the same thing. I may check into it later.

Related is:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ExpandTemplates
which may allow you to test parser function functionality. It is not installed on FS wiki

https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Special:Version
shows some extensions and parser functions.

Thank you for those links. I knew I have seen them somewhere. More would be nicer. I would still like to see them in those other locations as well. Having Templates Categorized would be helpful. Categorizing the Extensions and help pages would also be helpful.

Wikipedia uses templates to categorize templates and extensions. You simply include {{Template:Extension}} and magically you get entered into a bunch of stuff, including [[Category:Extensions]].

The more poking I do, the more I need to do.....

Forgive me for being tired and therefore unable to think clearly. But, are we talking about the same extensions? I am referring to MediaWiki extensions which are PHP code installed. I have not looked at much of the PHP code, but do they actually use Templates?

So far, I have not see any Templates within Wikipedia use {{Template:Extension}}. In the matter of fact, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Extension does not exist. I have seen Templates include {{Template doc}}, which looks like it is transcluded to {{Documentation}}, which then seems to transclude the actual document subpage of the Template. The categories look like they are assigned within this document subpage.

I also did not find a Category:Extensions at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Extensions or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Extension. Am I confused? Should I get to sleep at a descent time tonight?

I am running short of sleep too, so I may be as confused as you are :).

I have been bouncing between wikipedia, and mediawiki.org, the help site for the software itself.
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Category:Extensions

That should slow your confusion a bit.

It seems that extensions that are well behaved register their existence with the mediawiki software. They show on the Versions page. The template and categories I mentioned are on the mediawiki site pages that describe the extensions, not built into the extension itself.

That should make it a bit clearer.

Thanks
