Moroni vs LDSAccess
I'm trying to gain a bit of understand of the topic of the church's views on our wireless settings.
I saw it being mentioned that someone's internet connection could be solved by connecting to a wireless network called LDSAccess, if the device was setup for LDSAccess.
About 7 months ago I was told by GSD that they really wanted us to use LDSAccess rather than Moroni, which I fully understand, and it only makes sense to me, that we use LDSAccess instead of Moroni.
What I don't understand is why the church in general just haven't changed all the networks.
Why do I have to call GSD from each place we want the setting changed (which is really easy for GSD to do, only takes 2-3 mins.) ?
Anyone know?

In my experience, it works best to remove the moroni profile and add LDSAccess. In the cases where we have had both profiles configured on the same WAP, neither one has worked well.
But if you are removing the moroni profile, then every wireless connection to the network will suddenly be broken. A new connection will have to be established to LDSAccess by someone who knows the passphrase. Thus it would not be very nice if that were done without the knowledge of the local network administrator.
I suspect that the change is made only upon request for that reason.

Incompatible
I called the GSD today, and they said Moroni and LDSAccess were incompatible. I told them I would call back when I am at the stake center on Saturday, so I can reconfigure all the computers that use a wireless connection.
Do I get to choose the passphrase?
Can I change the passphrase if I think it has been compromised?

You cannot choose the passkey for the moroni script. We have been told that a stake can change the passkey for LDSAccess. Our stake has not had a need yet and we therefore are still using the Church default.Dana.Repouille wrote:I called the GSD today, and they said Moroni and LDSAccess were incompatible. Moroni vs LDSAccess
As I understand it, Moroni on a Cisco Aeronet 1200 uses WEP.
When we delete Moroni, and replace it with LDSAccess in the Aeronet 1200, will the Aeronet then be using WPA or WPA/2?
Even if I don't get to choose or change the passphrase, the GSD will have to tell me the passphrase so I can configure all the computers that are now using Odyssey to talk to Moroni.

That is correct.Dana.Repouille wrote:As I understand it, Moroni on a Cisco Aeronet 1200 uses WEP.

The installation of Odyssey Client that must be installed on a Church computer must be the Church distribution. That distribution is already configured to work with the moroni script to include the passkey. At no time will you be given the passkey for the moroni script.Dana.Repouille wrote:Even if I don't get to choose or change the passphrase, the GSD will have to tell me the passphrase so I can configure all the computers that are now using Odyssey to talk to Moroni.
Because of licensing restrictions the Church distribution of Odyssey Client can only be installed on Church owned computers. So if you want personal computers to connect to the wireless network you must use the LDSAccess script.

Odyssey
To be clear, I plan to replace Moroni with LDSAccess, and to uninstall the Odyssey Client from the three computers in the stake center that use it.
So my question was concerning the WPA passphrase to connect to LDSAccess. Who chooses it, and who can change it in the future?

The GSD definitely chooses the default passphrase and will communicate it to the stake technology specialist.Dana.Repouille wrote:So my question was concerning the WPA passphrase to connect to LDSAccess. Who chooses it, and who can change it in the future?
I have heard a couple people mention that they had heard that the GSD would allow their installation to change the passphrase, but I have never heard of any LDSAccess installation that had actually changed it (but of course that doesn't mean it hasn't been done).
When I last asked the GSD this question (which was over a year ago), I was told that they could not change the passphrase -- indeed, the tech that was working with me embarked on trying to change it, but was unable to do so. Perhaps policies or technical capabilities have changed since then.

LDSAccess is up
I switched from Moroni to LDSAccess in the stake center today. It worked, then didn't work, then worked, up, down, up down.
I decided to repeatedly reboot to see how quickly the system connected to the WAP. It seems to take too long for my taste.
After a couple hours of playing with this on three admin computers, things seemed to stablize. But I just KNOW I am going to get phone calls from angry clerks tomorrow.
Good thing the dial-up connection still works.
I was also able to connect to LDSAccess with my Windows 7 laptop from the stake offices and from the cultural hall, so that's a good thing.

Mobility
I changed both the stake center and a rural branch in Iowa to the LDSAccess profile. Now my laptop can roam! I was a bit excited when I arrived prior to the branch conference this morning, and I found that my laptop immediately connected to the local WAP.
So maybe it's OK if we all use the same passphrase. I can even travel to other stakes across the country and connect to the chapel wireless!!!
Is that an unintended side-effect?
