we just had dsl installed in our church. What is the next step to make it all work. The firewall has been installed but the ward tech doesn't know how to finish setting everything up.

You were not very specific in your request, so I don't know what information you need. However, to get you going I would recommend that you first contact your Stake Technology Specialist. He's the individual in the stake who's responsible for the maintenance and installation of the computers in the wards.

After talking to you Stake Technology Specialist, I would recommend he call to the GSD at 800-453-3860 ext 23457 to setup the pix-box and everything.

The call to the GSC should be handled by the Stake Technology Specialist and not done by someone at the ward level.

I heard from someone else that they may have renamed to Global Service Center (GSC) instead of Global Service Desk (GSD). I think it was Jdlessley that I saw mentioning this.

Thanks, it's still early.... I edited my post to reflect the correct information.

Well I guess the problem is that the stake tech is not sure what needs to be done. The phone company put it in and said your on your own. I'm not sure if that's true.
The stake tech is one of my area's of responsibilty so I thought I'd try the forum and find out what info I could get for him. I have had nothing but positive results from this site and thought maybe someone could walk us through it. Thanks for all the help.

The phone company should have at least made sure that the modem worked and was connected to the Internet, and that you could connect the modem directly to one computer and connect to the Internet. If they haven't done that much, then the stake tech should follow up with them and make sure they do that. But beyond that, it's generally true (and quite understandable) that the phone company won't help you with firewalls, routers, and such.

I'd recommend the Meetinghouse Internet article on the wiki, which has links to the Installation Guide for the firewall (which should also have come on paper with the firewall) and other helpful documents.

That will give you the walkthrough you're looking for. But if you have specific questions or problems after that, please feel free to post them.
