As a FHC Director, for an upcoming workshop. I have been asked to allow a presenter to share the WiFi password with all attendees, with no provision to enter it securely or to have it removed after the class. Stake Technology Specialist recommends not, and I agree, but there is disagreement on other levels, citing that there is no policy.
What is the consensus on this, as well as policy and common sense?

Re: Nonmember access to LDS Access using global password
My first thought would be to set up a temporary wifi network with a different password that you can share. That way the attendees would have access during the workshop, but it wouldn't get access to the global church wifi password. Depending on how large an area you need to cover, you might only need a couple access points set up temporarily.

Will see if our STS can do that. He has determined, in our unit, there are 14+ Wi-Fi nearby access points from surrounding businesses. If any of them or their employees, etc had the password, that's how many could access our Internet, so if the temporary network with password works, it would be the only real option that I can see.

I can't find the quote, but I believe the policy is that it's the Stake President's decision. Hopefully, that will take care of the "other levels".bookwalk wrote:Stake Technology Specialist recommends not, and I agree, but there is disagreement on other levels, citing that there is no policy.

Although it's not a specific response to the password question, I would note that the Internet section of the Meetinghouse Technology Policy says in point 5.1.1: "Internet is authorized in meetinghouses, under the direction of the stake president, for purposes that support the mission of the Church."russellhltn wrote:I can't find the quote, but I believe the policy is that it's the Stake President's decision.
It seems clear to me that in the absence of a specific superseding policy, that broad statement that Internet usage is under the direction of the stake president would indeed answer the question of who determines how and to whom the wireless password is communicated.
