881W Issues

***No need to read through this entire thread, it's a widespread problem, they are trying to work on it. All wired connections are working fine, the wireless access is dropping all day, or not able to connect at all.**

We have a building that has just moved to the 881W with two 1401 WEPs. I have had several calls and texts telling me they cant get on the network wirelessly. The only thing I can think of is that the IP addresses have run out.

But now, we are not to do anything with the 881Ws, due to the management of them is all handled now through the Global Service Center.

How many IP address can simultaneously be connected, by default? How many will it get increased to when I call the Global Service Center?

If you're the STS, log into tm.lds.org and see what your system is set for.

I think you're interested in the "DHCP Size". That's how many IPs can be handed out.

I just got a hold of the Global Service Center, it's church wide. They are getting swamped with calls. Is anyone else having wireless access problems? And as for the DHCP, we are set at 114.

Yes, we are seeing the connections getting dropped frequently. And we have 200+ addresses available via DHCP and this problem was happening with the first ward to meet in the building, so it's not an issue of running out of IP addresses. Besides, the problem doesn't act at all like running out of IP addresses -- we connect, but then the connection drops, and then it reconnects a few seconds later. The signal is strong, so that's not the problem either.

We had same issue in North SLC Stake bldgs. It appears it may have just come back up though. The issues is at the 881 and involves it either disabling wireless completely or disconnecting wireless clients, if you reboot the router it would come up again and only work until the firewall does it's "dial home" call to the church.

We were doing fairly well with our WNDR 3700 WAPs until we upgraded to the new 881W firewall. Now, I can connect when I first come in on Sunday morning, but by the 2nd hour, when someone is trying to access the wireless for a lesson, it won't connect. I reboot the 881W, and then they can connect. I'm not sure if this is the same problem others are seeing, but that has been my experience the past two weeks that we've passed a Sunday with the 881W. All through the week doing some testing with a single device or two I see no problems. So it seems somehow related to lots of people connecting.

Can someone run a ipconfig command and see how long the IP lease is for? I've had problems in my home network when I've set the lease too short. It ends up killing the connection until it can renew.

Very interesting, I interrupted meetings, was called out to help troubleshoot issues in multiple buildings at varying times yesterday. As I review this board, it seems it was related to a church-wide issue. Is this confirmed?

I would request that in the future an issue that has the potential to affect meetinghouse wireless connectivity - have a notification out to Stake Technology Specialists.

We are on the front lines, we serve as the eyes and ears out there for these issues. Bishops and Stake Presidents call us, and I think it very kind and loving to be notified of a system-wide outage... a Notice on this board that could be Set to Sticky or an email out to the STS email list is a suggested method of communication.
