High/low voltage. On a day to day basis the interference that your network cabling could pick up if it is running within 1/8" of a power line hooked up to a string of fluorescent light fixtures with poor grounds and failing ballasts should dissuade you from that as an option. From a safety issue if the two are next to each other and there is a short you might end up sending 220V into your firewall through the network port which could ruin your day.

The newer powerline adapters are setup to specifically avoid ham radio frequencies which reduces the chance of this. However, many older buildings have wiring that require multiple jumps to reach the other side with these. They are also slower so CAT6 wiring is still a better option.

Yes, voltage.
