I think if some kind of memo was sent to all the units we would see more usage. In the last week I have found answers to many things, not just for clerks. Information is a good thing only if people know how to find it.
Yes, a memo would be nice. We are working on getting approval to have this type of memo sent out.

We have not formally announced this site to clerks yet, but will be soon. We needed to get a few things in place before we start inviting many or all clerks to the site. Part of the waiting was proving that this forum and other clerk.lds.org site material would be used. We have proven that it can be a very valuable aid for clerks and technology specialists.

Wiki participation

Getting people to actively contribute to a wiki or any knowledge base is a bit more difficult than engaging them in a forum discussion. Those frequently adding knowledge to the forums could be the start of a wiki contributor group, ones that drive a wiki. Making the availability of the forums and a knowledge base more well known among clerks should generate enough interest to make a wiki project fly.

This is certainly true.

That hasn't worked as well as one would have expected. Upon reflection, I think the issue is that a forum question is a specific problem that usually has a fairly narrow and easy to write answer. A Wiki requires a much broader (and longer) article to cover all common problems, possible problems and is significantly harder to write.

Wiki now on track

In case anyone reads this thread and doesn't realize what has happened since, the wiki is up and operating at LDSClerks.com. We have resolved the problems with spam, and, thanks to Herculean efforts by Alan, Russell and Steve Cotrell, the wiki now has nearly 100 pages and a lot of activity. I think its become a great resource.

Readers here should also know that the LDSClerks.com wiki grew out of the LDSClerks email group, started nearly 10 years ago. That group has nearly 1000 members at the moment, and has accumulated nearly 20,000 messages. [The list will celebrate its 20,000th message in the next few months, and will turn 10 years old in November).

I am sorry that the wiki was out of commission for so long. But its in good shape now, and I encourage anyone looking for detailed information about being a clerk to check there. Its worth a visit.

The LDS Clerks Wiki has been migrated to a new location hosted by the church and updated with new content. For the complete wiki, see LDS Tech.

Yes and no. This is a very old thread and things have happened since it went dormant. The old wiki was a private endeavor by members of the church. It existed long before LDSTech. When LDSTech came up, the content was donated to the church and became the starting point of the LDSTech wiki. Later, the older original Wiki was taken down.

There is also a link to the wiki at the top of each forum page for easy access to the wiki.
